Bilic: Consistency will see Carroll play for England at Euro 2016

Andy Carroll was overlooked for England s upcoming international friendlies against Spain and France but he is still a chance to make the Euro 2016 squad, according to West Ham manager Slaven Bilic.

There was no room for Carroll in Roy Hodgson s 23-man England squad on Thursday, with in-form Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney preferred up front.

Carroll has not added to his nine caps since October 2012 but Bilic believes the 26-year-old, who netted the winner against Chelsea last month, can book his spot on the plane to France next year if he can enjoy a consistent run of form.

He has to perform well and as a centre-forward, he has to score goals. It is very simple, Bilic said ahead of Saturday s clash at home to Everton.

Ronaldo to be involved in all three Portugal fixtures after Man Utd move, says Santos

Cristiano Ronaldo will play in all three of Portugal s fixtures during the international break following his return to Manchester United, head coach Fernando Santos said.

Ronaldo completed his United comeback on Tuesday, the five-time Ballon d Or winner re-joining the Red Devils from Juventus for a second spell following his successful first stint at Old Trafford between 2003 and 2009.

Amid the hype in Manchester, Ronaldo s attention has swiftly turned to matters with Portugal as Santos men prepare to face Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.

Portugal will also meet Qatar in a friendly on Saturday before resuming their road to Qatar 2022 against Azerbaijan on Tuesday.

As Ronaldo stands on the cusp of breaking his tie with Ali Daei for the most international…

Lampard suspects Godfrey fractured fibula in Chelsea loss, hints at further signings after Everton i

Frank Lampard admitted Everton s injury situation could force the club s hand in the transfer market, as he revealed Ben Godfrey had suffered a suspected fractured fibula in the Premier League defeat to Chelsea.

Jorginho s first-half penalty was enough to give Thomas Tuchel s Blues a 1-0 win at Goodison Park on Saturday, ending their run of four consecutive league defeats on the ground.

While Chelsea were indebted to Edouard Mendy for preserving their clean sheet with fine saves from James Tarkowski, Demarai Gray and Abdoulaye Doucoure, Lampard s side were hampered by injury problems on the opening day of the new campaign.

Having already been left without a recognised striker through Dominic Calvert-Lewin s injury and Salomon Rondon s suspension, the Toffees s…

Inzaghi hails job well done in Plzen as Inter prepare to battle Barcelona and Bayern

Simone Inzaghi was in no doubt as to the importance of Inter s 2-0 Champions League win at Viktoria Plzen, as he looks to navigate a path through a group containing Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Having fallen to a 2-0 loss against Bayern last Wednesday, Inter were faced with the prospect of starting a Champions League campaign with back-to-back defeats for just the second time (after doing so in 2006-07).

But Edin Dzeko s cultured first-half finish put the Nerazzurri in control, and Denzel Dumfries made the points safe after Pavel Bucha was dismissed on the hour mark.

Inter have now won three of their last four Champions League away games, as many as they had in their previous 12 such matches.

Having triumphed 1-0 at Liverpool in the second leg of a last…

Aubameyang hints at BVB stay past 2020

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang insists he is happy at Borussia Dortmund and envisages his long-term future being with the club.

The 27-year-old penned a contract extension running until 2020 in July despite being linked to the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid – doing much to fuel speculation over a move to the latter club himself.

He has been in prolific form this season and scored the winner against rivals Bayern Munich in Der Klassiker last Saturday, moving to 12 goals in 10 Bundesliga games.

Gabon international Aubameyang thrilled Signal Iduna Park and the 25,000-strong Yellow Wall on the stadium s Sudtribune by sinking Bayern and he cited Dortmund s passionate support as a factor in his present satisfaction.

The fans of BVB are really incredible…

Klopp could stay at Liverpool beyond 2024 if he has ´the energy levels´

Jurgen Klopp hinted he could remain at Liverpool beyond 2024 if he has the energy required.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday s FA Cup victory over Norwich City, Klopp said he was unsure whether he would extend his contract at Anfield. The German s deal is due to expire at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.

The 54-year-old has won five trophies – including Premier League and Champions League titles – during his six and a half years on Merseyside, and on Friday he said it was still his intention to see out his deal.

However, he believes it is more important that the club is positioned to continue challenging for multiple honours even if he is no longer at the club.

Jürgen Klopp discussed the importance of strength in depth and the challenge West …

Morocco have no special plan to stop Mbappe, claims Regragui

Morocco coach Walid Regragui has no special tactical plan to stop France s star forward Kylian Mbappe.

The Atlas Lions are the underdog success story of the World Cup, having beat Belgium, Spain and Portugal en route to becoming the first African team to reach a semi-final in the tournament s history.

France, on the other hand, lost their last meeting with an African side – against Tunisia in the group stage in Qatar – but are aiming to reach the final for a second successive World Cup after their triumph in 2018.

Mbappe has been their driving force, scoring five goals and setting up a further two. No other player in the competition has contributed to as many goals as the 23-year-old, who is the tournament s top scorer.

Trying to stop Mbappe will be h…

Ten Hag deserves more time after FA Cup win, says Man Utd great Yorke

Erik ten Hag should be given another season by the new regime at Manchester United after masterminding their FA Cup triumph, says former Red Devils striker Dwight Yorke.

Ten Hag s future was subject to speculation throughout a largely dismal season for United, who recorded their lowest ever Premier League finish of eighth.

They also exited the Champions League in the group stage, losing 19 matches and conceding 85 goals across all competitions.

However, they finished an underwhelming campaign on a high note on Saturday, with Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scoring in a shock 2-1 FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

Yorke says Ten Hag deserves credit for the way he set United up at Wembley Stadium, as the Red Devils edged City for expected goal…

Fulham 1-1 West Ham: Ings´ last-gasp leveller denies Cottagers

Danny Ings stoppage-time strike rescued a point for West Ham as they drew 1-1 with Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Ings cancelled out Raul Jimenez s first-half goal as local bragging rights were shared in this London derby.

Fulham should have broken the deadlock in the 23rd minute, but Adama Traore headed Alex Iwobi s inviting cross wide from six yards out.

But the hosts were not to be denied just 60 seconds later. Smith Rowe beat the offside trap to latch onto Andreas Pereira s throughball, before crossing for Jimenez to tuck away.

West Ham went close to equalising on the hour mark when Jarrod Bowen brilliantly controlled Mohammed Kudus cross, but was thwarted by Bernd Leno s smart reflex save.

The Hammers looked set to leave the Cottage empty-handed u…

Burnley forget Premier League troubles to ease past Salford in Carabao Cup

Burnley put their Premier League troubles to one side as they breezed into the last 16 of the Carabao Cup with a 4-0 demolition of Sky Bet League Two strugglers Salford.

Winless in their first five games back in the top flight, Vincent Kompany’s side are enjoying better fortunes in this competition and followed up last month’s victory at Nottingham Forest with a one-sided win over Salford, suffering near the foot of League Two but boasting Cup wins over Leeds and Preston.

Anass Zaroury had a hand in all four goals as Sander Berge, Jacob Bruun Larsen and Dara O’Shea put the result beyond doubt inside the opening half an hour before Wilson Odobert marked his full debut with a late fourth. For all four Burnley scorers, it was their first goal for the club.
